Thought I'd start a topic about everyone's local music scenes, see if we can introduce each other to something new to them.
I've got two from my hometown for you to start with, Marina and the Diamonds is a young Cypriot/Welsh lady, probably an army brat, in the vein of Regina and Kate Bush, but with more of a poppy edge. Then there's the unfortunately departed Matthew Jay, who, as is the way with lazy journalists, compared to the likes of Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Jeff, as he was a singer/songwriter.
Some more Welsh music you may not know, but may enjoy, Los Campesinos!, a half girl, half boy 6 piece formed in Cardiff (two of their bootlegs on my blog), and Victorian English Gentlemans Club are another 50/50 boy/girl band from Cardiff that I'm really enjoying at the moment.

I am actually familiar with all the artists you mentioned, which means they aren't only local ;D
Not sure how many of you know this video, but this is a local artist (and an amazing one) doing "No One Must Find You Here": www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dy4ZB61Rig

Well get you little-miss-no-it-all!
I would've posted some bygone Welsh language bands like Datblygu and Galwad y Mynydd, but then the chances of anyone actually hearing those, let alone hearing of them, is rather slim. Not forgetting of course the language barrier.
I will add another though, as I forgot her last time, Katell Keineg. Welsh/Breton singer, who coincidently made her name in N.Y.C in the early '90s, playing such places as Sin-E.
If anyone has the photo of Jeff taken there with this...
...on the wall in the background, please, please post!
Hereunder the link to Billy Bates, from Glasgow, Scotland, a real celtic inspired guy. a friend listened to his music in summer 1997 and told him he sounded like Jeff who he didn't know. I had the pleasure to have him in Paris for 3 times for the Jeff Buckley Tributes. He is now a friend.
I like especially his perfectionism and the translike intros he did for the "New Years Prayer" he performed.www.myspace.com/iooi
