If we've any budding digital artists onboard, I try my hand every now-and-then, and you'd like to design new or improved covers for any of the shows then this is the place to post them and get feedback from other members. To that end, I've opened a Photobucket account in the name of the board, so we can upload images to be used for this purpose, and to store the finished covers. photobucket/jewelboxforumThe login password is 'scotty'.

On this subject, what do people use when burning CDs and designing labels and covers? I've got Burrrn (linked in the usefull tools thread) to make the audio discs themselves, and use SureThing CD Labeler Deluxe to design all the artwork. This is great for me as it creates artwork for disc labels, jewel and DVD covers, inserts, minidisc and LightScribe discs. If you've got a LightScribe drive and software (installed in most if not all HP PC's/Laptops), I'm sure you have plenty of fun designing, as I do, and if you don't, you really should look into them, as with the special discs you can burn monochrome (black and white) images directly onto the top of the disc (which you can get in silver, gold, or a variety of colours) to make it look a professional job. Much better than a permanent marker anyday! LightScribe examples

Thought I'd actually have a little go at this CD insert, as I had nothing better to do. It's slightly oversized, to allow for ink bleed and trimming, and it took me ages to do a set of Buckley alphabet PS brushes I used for the front. Full size and quality insert (Too wide for the screen)

Le Bataclan, Jeff seems so young on these beautiful shots taken by Villalonga. I just listened to this show for a few days, such an energy and joy, a solar joy, spread by Jeff and his band. Amazing show. I adore on the Grace EP's the intro when JB says "Bonsoir, Paris". Beautiful artwork too.

It sure is a great show alright For the artwork on that one (and I think that's my favourite from the set), I simply used one block colour, then when i added the photo I made it slightly transparent, so the colours blended just nicely, and adding slightly to the grainy, feels like you've had the cover in your hands hundreds of times look of it. If any of you use Photoshop at all, here's the brush set I made to replicate his hand writing. Jeff Buckley HandwritingI was actually considering putting together some 'lyrics' using this, then posting it somewhere and seeing if people believed it was some unearthed treasure, but then I am demonic... Oops, forgot to add the image.

I did look into making a font before, when I had a John Frusciante one on my old computer, but for the life of me I couldn't find a program to help me do it, so I resorted to this. Besides, with a font, you'd only get one lowercase and one uppercase of each letter, this way you can use as many as you have samples of.

The brush set didn't open with my Photoshop 7.0. Which version is it made for?

I made it in CS2, perhaps I could put all the letters on a blank white background, then it's a simple case of you 'copying' each one and defining your own brushes.

As a matter of fact there is a way of including different 'versions' of one letter/sign in a font. I'm sort of familiar with the subject, since I'm a graphic designer, but it's a VERY complex one. So I never got around creating a font myself, even if it's just someone else's handwriting. But that reminds me, I really should look into it someday... Thanks for making the brush set, Martyn! Though the link doesn't seem to work for me for some reason. It won't let me download (server is not responding). BTW: I'm just sitting here at work listening to music (random -> last fm). Suddenly Opened Once comes on and I really had to pull myself together to not start crying. I always thought it's a good song, but it never affected me this way. Weird. *sigh* Sometimes I'm way too emotional /rant

Mediafire sometimes does that, just try again in a bit. I had a similar experience 2 days ago, only the song that came on (I forget what it was now) was a happy one. Not a good sign I don't think!
