It's on the way, son of Ridley Scott will direct the movie. No names have been given for the main role I mean Jeff.

I'm not looking forward to this at all. I hope it continually gets put off. I would much rather see documentaries or home videos of Jeff. And if Robert Pattinson gets the role ...

boo rpattz! dude appears obsessed about impersonating jeff. he is an ugly version of michael tighe. michael is probably a better actor too. God, I know!! I hadn't been checking the official site and now I read all about it!! I actually am surprised because I thought it was all a strategy to prevent the movie from happening, but it turns out that Mary & Co. did wanted to make the film! Anyways... isn't James Franco too old now? Who cares, right?? we aren't going to start ANOTHER "who's playing Jeff" thread... or are we?? In the light of this event (and also because now that I'm in France, I can) I bought the "Dream Brother" book to know what kind of things maybe they're going to put in film and also because I wanted some Jeff reading Back to topic, I'm not sure how to feel about it. The movie, I mean. Jeff's life and his music feel too intimate and too awesome, respectively, to put in a movie. But at the same time I can't imagine how astoundingly gorgeous it must feel to be in a dark movie theater listening to his songs super loud in beautiful quality... can you?? *Edit to say that I remember that awful movie with "We all fall in love sometimes" at the end (I had to suffer the entire thing just to hear Jeff at the theater) and it was indeed gorgeous, I felt like crying and the whole movie ticket was worth the song. yes! it really is a conflicting thing. on one hand, watching jeff swirl around the romance of the movie theater is enticing. (well, if they get it right, which they probably won't). on the other, jeff is too personal and intimate to be exposed in that manner. like city dress said, documentaries are more than enough.

actually there is news: www.hollywoodlife.com/2011/06/15/penn-badgley-jeff-buckley-robert-pattinson-biopic-movie/just found out about it. i don't know the actor. but after watching this i feel a bit better about their choice: youtu.be/94rqZYuzHVYi'm still bummed out that james franco didn't make it. but i guess he's just too old by now. aside from that i'm still on the fence about this whole movie project. i can't really say how it's release is going to influence jeff's image. i certainly don't want it to create a new mainstreamy short lived fan craze like for instance "walk the line" or "ray" did. what are you guys thinking about penn badgley playing jeff? ps: somehow my account login isn't working anymore, damn ...

thanks! i've never heard of this actor. it's weird how we go from someone so right like Franco to these types of celebrities. at least it's not the vampire. :/

found and read this on JBC Penn Badgley is playing Jeff in this one: QUOTE Jeff Buckley had a very short career even by tragic-musician standards -- he died in 1997 at the age of 30 in a freak swimming accident after releasing just one studio album. But his legend looms large in music circles, and will soon be represented on the big screen too. An independent film about the revered singer-songwriter titled "Greetings From Tim Buckley" (a reference to Jeff's musician father) aims to shoot this summer, beating to the punch a different Jeff Buckley movie that's being developed with Buckley's mother and director Jake Scott. On Monday, "Greetings" announced that "Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley has been cast as Jeff Buckley. Directed by Daniel Algrant and produced by a company called Smuggler Films, "Greetings from Tim Buckley" will focus on Jeff Buckley's breakthrough as a musician at a 1991 tribute concert for his late father. (Tim Buckley was a seminal musician in his own right, moving radically from folk to other styles before dying of a drug overdose at the age of 28 in 1975.) Of his role as Jeff Buckley, Badgley said in a statement that it was "something very special and sacred" to re-create the life of a man "who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood & mythologized as a human being." Would Badgley make a good Jeff Buckley? "Gossip Girl" isn't the first piece of entertainment one thinks of when the singer's name is mentioned, though Badgley's Dan Humphrey is the most soulful and poetic of the "Gossip Girl" characters. The actor has been shaking up his movie career -- after supporting turns in comedies such as "Easy A" and "John Tucker Must Die," he has a small role in the upcoming financial drama "Margin Call." Then there's the matter of the other Jeff Buckley movie. This spring, Jake Scott (son of Ridley and director of "Welcome to the Rileys") said he has been developing a biopic about the late artist. The films are being conceived somewhat differently: Scott's is more of a look at Buckley's life and career; the Badgley film will focus on a single identity-forging event. (Producers on the Scott project were initially confused by reports that Badgley was playing Jeff Buckley in their film.) And though reports about Scott's biopic said producers secured much of the music rights -- Jeff Buckley's mother is an executive producer, after all -- a spokeswoman for the "Greetings" producers said their movie will feature more than its share of tunes, with rights secured to many Tim Buckley tracks as well as Jeff Buckley's iconic cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." The announcement of the Scott film in April prompted some fans to call for James Franco to play the late musician. There's not been anything from the actor himself, although a very different performer -- Robert Pattinson -- did give an interview in which he said he met with Buckley's mother about the lead role. Pattinson versus Badgley as Jeff Buckley? Now that's some heartrending drama. latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/201...mes-franco.html

While I think that it's an interesting idea to make a movie just about an one time event, it wouldn't do Jeff's career/life enough justice. There's way more to his story, and it's an interesting one. I don't like the thought of reducing him to just this one tribute concert.
But without the rights for the songs, I doubt this movie project is going to happen.
And it seams they don't have an actor linked to the Mary Guibert produced biopic.
I have a feeling it's going to take some time before we see one of those movies on the big screen. And I have no problem with that.

Ugh TWO movies?
Greetings from Tim Buckley sounds like a joke. Jeff would have hated a movie about his relationship with his father.
And the guy they picked, Penn Badgley, is an actor on Gossip Girl. I don't think he resembles Jeff and his speaking voice is pretty deep.

I'm pretty OK with the decision of Reeve Carney for playing Jeff. Not completely ok with the whole movie idea, but the choice of actor could've been so much worse and we know it. Sad part is, he will be doing the singing so we won't get to hear Jeff's lovely voice super loud at the theater (maybe except for a last song in the credits, typical Hollywood ending). what ? Jeff will not sing through Reeve ....OMG this means that there will be no special music for us the veteran fans ... I'm just speachless, it is not that I have something against this sweet young guy but Jeff's music has to be sung by Jeff, how will he approach only the powerful magic of him ?
