www.talktidy.comApparantly the guy who wrote these words/terms that combine Welsh with English was from the Rhondda, the next valley along from me, though being brought up on the border (and often thought English!) I don't use alot of them, it's still nice to see them held in high regard. Thought I'd post it in the offchance I throw one in somewhere and you don't know what I'm going on about Some of my faves: Costa del Hi-ya Butt (hello friend) A 'tongue-in-cheek' name for Trecco Bay, Porthcawl (caravan park on the south coast). It stems from the reputed fact that so many locals used to take holidays there, that one was sure to meet many friends and neighbours. Mitching (Mootching where I'm from) Wenglish word for playing truant. Open tap The commencement of licensing hours; "Jew, when's open tap around 'ere? I got a thirst I wouldn't sell for a quid!" Overcoat colder (or my favourite version, ten jumpers weather) Considerable colder; "Damn aye, it's (an) overcoat colder in Merthyr than down Cardiff - and (an) overcoat and muffler colder in Brynmawr!!" (Brynmawr's particularly cold, being the highest town in Wales) Thar wun Wenglish for 'that one'. A couple not there: Noah/No-wah. An exasperated "No!". "No-wah! You carn ave sweets!" Carryin sheep. The stride particular to someone who thinks he's strong, arms out to sides as if he had a sheep under each. Used in a derogatory fashion.
